Bertagni 1882 S.p.A.
Bertagni is believed to be the oldest Tortellini producer in the world, established in Bologna in 1882. Bertagni produces only premium private label of fresh and frozen pasta with absolutely no concessions in quality. It specializes in flat and filled pasta in a variety of shapes and sizes, adhering strictly to Italian gastronomic traditions. Though some companies may try to be everything for everybody, Bertagni’s mission is to focus only on the premium side of the PL market. They adhere to the slogan – “Food is good if the dish is empty and you still want another bite.”
Bertagni’s has been an exhibitor at PLMA Amsterdam for the past six years and in a recent communication, Antonio Marchetti, who handles sales and marketing, explained he likes the event because it is attended by “qualified people who are serious about doing business.” When asked if Bertagni would be featuring new products and what the were, he replied, like a true marketer, “Yes but I prefer not to say which; it will be a secret until then.”
In shifting toward Bertagin’s future prospects, Mr. Marchetti offered that, “ I am absolutely very optimistic since the premium segment keep growing thanks to the slow recovery. Customers go to the supermarket more and more to by premium instead of going out for dinner or looking for savings from buying the same quality products in specialty food stores where the same product can cost up to two times the same premium PL supermarket brand.”
Bertagni knows what premium PL means with a proven successful record in over 40 countries. You will find Bertagni’s products under the very finest retail brands around the world.

Drogheria & Alimentari
As of 29 June 2011 Drogheria & Alimentari took 80% of the shares of the company Lebonta, located in Tuscany. LeBonta is a brand market leader in Italy, with private label at for example COOP Italy.
All products are natural, gluten free and can be customized toward the request of the customers, with a price range of $2.99 – $3.99. Giacinto Carapelli will take care of all exports for D & A a well as the Lebonta products.
Drogheria & Alimentari was founded in 1880 in Florence and was acquired in 1985 by Carapelli Spa, an Italian olive oil brand leader in Italy, owned by the Carapelli and Barbagli families. In 1990 the families sold the Carapelli olive oil business leaving the new spice business out of the deal, at that time the spice turnover was just €200,000. In 2006 D&A built the new facility (with over 10.000 m2 that can be expanded to 16.000 m2) gaining a much bigger efficiency. Today the Carapelli and Barbagli families are still co-owners of D&A and in just 15 years drove it to be the spice market leader with a 2009 net turnover of above €30 million.
The vast and intricate Italian retail system, although being a huge opportunity, is characterized by an elevated fragmentation (all together we have around 300 decisional points to cover the whole distribution). D&A leans its deep foundations in the spices retail business which requires, in order to be successful, a strong distribution power in terms of sales reps and organization due to the type of product and the many items involved (an average spice assortment counts at least 40 items). D&A takes advantage of this well established distributive channel to reach the consumers with high image products, ethnic, innovative or healthy products (wine and champagne, biscuits and pastry, sweet and salted snacks). The strength points are based on a long experience (50 years with olive oil and 20 with spices) and a good relationship with the main buyers which comes from the good reputation that D&A has been able to build in time.
D&A is one of the few companies structured to serve the single point of sale, using merchandisers, delivering straight to the store skipping the central warehouses of the retail chains. This system is preferable when it comes to spices in order to avoid out of stocks.
